Every year thousands of plugged in, dynamic individuals receive their Permaculture certification and go out into the world to apply these amazing teachings and principals in their own lives, their communities and on global & international initiatives.
I am honoured to be working with the Ermineskin Cree Nation by Hobbema, Alberta helping to transform a 4 acre area into a community garden, food forest, teaching centre and Permaculture demonstration site. I get goose bumps just thinking about what a difference Permaculture makes in this world and this is even more apparent when working with the indigenous communities. Permaculture can help a community to establish their Food sovereignty and provide opportunities for water harvesting, grey water systems, natural building utilizing thermal mass, rocket mass heaters combined with cobb structures for heating, showers and year round greenhouses; bee keeping, sustainable forestry, growing herbs for natural medicine and salves – closed loop systems with care of the earth, care of the people and return of surplus at its root.
We can start looking at systems differently; from a whole new perspective and I do not believe that consumerism is the route. Slow food, slow money and community building is our future.
