I have been designing in Edmonton 7 years now and in the last few years Edmonton and surrounding residents are becoming more aware of the benefits of going green. When renovating a home it can be costly and in the past it was an added expense to purchase products to build an environmentally friendly home. As time went on suppliers lowered the cost of materials so that it is more attainable for families to build safer and longer lasting homes. As a designer I encourage my clients to explore the options of using green products before purchasing the everyday materials, they will notice the cost in building green is not that much different than building or renovating the traditional way.
For example when I design kitchen or bathrooms I only use Huntwood Cabinets. They offer a wide selection of choices through carefully managed materials that go through a state of the art finishing process. They meet the requirements for air quality, resource management of products and processes, and environmental stewardship.
This process can be used in the entire designing process from your flooring to cabinets to lighting. You will notice your home to be more durable, longer lasting and has a better resale value. Not only will you save money on your electricity and water bills but will also profit more when you have your home appraised to sell.
